I promise you that I have not been neglecting the blog because of my other blog. There really truly is nothing of note going on. The boat is doing boat stuff that I'm not allowed to talk about on here, and we're just kinda in a holding pattern getting sporadically pissed off at the Navy for the same ol' same ol' mostly out of frustration of a lack of schedule. You all know how that goes.
I guess there is some sort of news. The Navy birthday ball is coming up and I actually already have a dress. I just have to get a brooch for it, because it has been lost. Don't feel like getting all upset by explaining the how. It's just missing and now i need to find a replacement. There are several candidates on Etsy, I just need to pick on this week so make sure it gets here in time without having to over pay for shipping.
We're getting closer and closer (oh so very slowly) to Monkey's one-year-left mark. He decided quite some time ago that he is not reenlisting. A career in the Navy is for some, but not for us. We're excited to move into a new normal and really start our lives together. It's going to be a little scary, especially money-wise for a bit, but we're totally stoked to be figuring it all out together. :)
My offices are moving into a historic building in Fort Vancouver. So, we're literally in what was a military base. The idea seems cool, and the building is very neat. But, the whole scenario is a bit eerie for me. It just feels a little unsettling to be on a military base. Even being from the 1900's it still feels like Monkey's base and it's weird for me, for some reason. I know it's really going to sink in when he's deployed and I'm walking around a military base every day. Or, maybe I'll just get so used to it that I won't notice? I hope that's the case. I used to run through there on my lunch breaks and I would get super nostalgic and miss him like crazy, can't imagine what that's going to be like on a daily basis. Guess I'll find out.
We're sticking it out in this apartment for one more year. The rent is going to go up again but it's the best apartment I've ever lived in. I was thinking about moving into a cheaper place but Monkey wants us to move once he gets out so we can have a new shared space. Since I spend so much time in this apartment I think he feels like I have kind of claimed the territory. I won't have a problem 'unclaiming' it but I also don't mind a fresh start to go with our new lives. So, I'm not really going to argue. We kind of want to find something that is more central to our dancing activities anyway since we'll be able to do that much more often. Money permitting.
Mm, I think that about it. I always end up writing more in these "I have nothing to say" posts than I think I'm going to. I guess I just have to sit down and start writing. Anyway, that's what's up. Catch ya later.

Home decore and a boring weekend.
Well, I have to say this weekend isn't as bad as it was going to be, but I'm still bummed.
Originally, Monkey thought he was going to be on the boat all night Friday and wouldn't be coming home. Turns out because of some technicalities, he didn't have to stay all night. He got home about midnight on Friday. But, he's on his way back right now. He is working later today and on Labor day. I mean, I understand, they've got work to do. The boat has to be ready. But, now I have two days unplanned, and for the life of me I can't think of anything to do by myself. I don't have to work, and all of my gyms/studios are closed for the holiday. It's also a beautiful day which make it even more difficult.

We made use of the one day he was home, though. For our anniversary my parents got us a giftcard to Bed Bath and Beyond. So, after perusing the bedding section for the 5th time and not coming to a consensus on an amicable style, we opted to solve our dilemma of the poorly designed bedroom/bathroom. In theory this set up is quite convenient. The sink is outside of the toilet/shower room. And across from the sink is a second mirrored closet. (Perfectly sized for a certain sailors civilian wardrobe) It's great because one person can be using the bathroom/shower and the other can still get to the sink to brush teeth/put on make up/etc. The problem with this is that if you are laying on the bed and someone is at the sink with the lights on, you are blinded by the vanity lights above the mirror. To solve this problem, we picked up a tension curtain rod and a single panel of a curtain. We hung the curtain as a door between the bedroom and the sink area. It doesn't block out all the light but it at least block the direct line of sight to the glaring lightbulbs. Plus, it's pretty. It's the only pop of color we have in the bedroom. Until this, we had only decorated the bathroom. And only out of necessity, because you kind of need a shower curtain and bathmat.
Oh, I forgot. I also took him to Men's Warehouse and bought him some investment shirts. (read: expensive shirts) They were having a buy on get one free sale. I went in with a pretty good budget and ended up doubling it. Oops. But it's worth it. He owns maybe two nice shirts. He has a problem finding shirts that fit him well because he has such a big chest. By the time they fit his chest they are like a tent on the rest of him. So, I took him to get four new shirts and had them tailored so they would fit him correctly. I also had him sized for a jacket so they have all his measurements in their system and I can get him clothes while he's gone and stock his closet a little bit at a time. We also took pictures of some ties that I will get for him in the future. I just couldn't spend any more money on that trip.
Ok, so that wasn't very exciting. But, I'm trying to relieve some boredom by blogging. Anyways, hope you all have a great long weekend. Do something fun for me. :)

What are the odds?
OK, I'm just going to whine for a second. Yes I realize that it could be worse, he could be deployed. But since he's not, I would have liked to have taken advantage of that since next year he likely will be gone. I am grateful that he is here, just that circumstances are disappointing. And I know, he's not the only one, every one in this duty section are stuck with the same crappy schedule. I guess I'm still learning about what I should and should not get my hopes up about.
What are the odds that he would end up with duty on every single holiday event (except one).
He had duty on Thanksgiving. (And had to work the next day) He had duty for his holiday party. He has duty for my family christmas get together, he has duty this weekend for a holiday party we were supposed to go to and if he didn't have leave, he would have had duty on New Years Eve. Which would have been doubly bad, because besides the fact that it's new years eve, it's also the night of my salsa performance.
Ok, I'm done. Not another word about that. (umm, probably)
It will be so great when he finally has leave and we can move into the new place and just be "us" for a while.
And speaking of the new place...
In happier news, we got the keys to the new place this weekend! (Though several hours later than expected - that's all I'll say about that. ) We spent Saturday night there on an air mattress with some hot cocoa and a fire log watching a movie on my very old laptop. Before hand we went shopping for food and some kitchen stuff but it took us so long that by the time we got back we were too pooped and not really hungry any more. So we didn't even eat dinner.
We spent Sunday getting more stuff for the kitchen. It is ridiculous how much stuff you need for a minimally functioning kitchen. Then we picked up a shower curtain and bath mat for the master bathroom. It's super cute now. The first night we had to use the guest bath to shower because we forgot to get a shower curtain and the guest bath has sliding shower doors. I actually like that shower better.
I like them!!! Especially the bowls. |
For those who have a vested interest in our kitchen decor, we decided to do black and white and teal. (Dark Turquoise/Peacock blue green-ish) Here are the plates we picked out. The decision went something like this. While at Safeway "Oh look honey, I like the plates here on this end cap", "I like them too. Let's get them." So now we have these plates and bowls. To be filled in with Teal plates, also. These plates specifically.
We still need a couch and we still need lamps and nightstands, and a microwave. Yes, I totally thought there was a microwave there. There is not. We will be needing one of those!
